Tun M: "Show Evidence. Ask Him (Najib) To Show Evidence"

Meanwhile, graft investigators said they have "no information" on Najib's allegations.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir has demanded that Najib should "show evidence" for his claim that he paid "one of Mahathir's people" RM10 million in cash for the 13th General Election in 2013

The Prime Minister was approached by a reporter from Malaysiakini, asking, "The former prime minister said yesterday that a trusted aide of yours got RM10 million in cash from him before the 13th general election. Is it true?"

To which, Tun Dr Mahathir, who was at the American Chamber of Commerce Malaysia's AGM luncheon in KL yesterday, replied to the reporter saying, "Show evidence. Ask him (Najib Razak) to show evidence," before stepping away.

Najib, in an exclusive interview with Malaysiakini, had alleged that he gave "one of Mahathir's people" RM10 million in cash for GE13

According to Najib, the man was one of Dr Mahathir's "trusted aides".

The former UMNO president, while describing the man as a well-known swimmer, said that the money was collected from his private residence in Jalan Duta.

While Najib Razak had revealed the name of the said aide, Malaysiakini said that they are withholding the identity of the person pending his response.

The former UMNO president brought out the claim of him paying RM10 million in cash to Dr Mahathir's aide during GE13 as a defence that the RM116 million in case seized from premises linked to him were for election expenses for BN.

Meanwhile, according to a report in The Star, graft investigators have "no information" on the money allegedly given by Najib

Quoting a 'top-level source', the English daily reported that officials said while there was no report over the claim "for now", they pointed out that, even so, "there is no law to prevent one from receiving funds for political purposes" in Malaysia.
