In a press conference at the Bersatu headquarters today, 12 May, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad revealed that it was him who prevented former PM Najib Razak from leaving the country
"It is true that I prevented Najib from leaving the country.
"Apart from him and his wife, I'm not aware of any other persons," Tun Dr Mahathir said during the press conference where he announced three new cabinet ministries.
Earlier today, the Immigration Department declared that they have blacklisted Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor from leaving Malaysia, effective immediately.
When asked about the reason for the Immigration blacklist on Najib, Tun Dr Mahathir replied, saying that there is "sufficient evidence into things that have been done" by the former prime minister
"There are a lot of complaints against him, all of which have to be investigated.
"If some of the complaints are valid...We have to act quickly because we don’t want to be saddled with extradition from other countries," he added.
Tun Dr Mahathir also said that he wants to settle 1MDB investigations as soon as possible as he doesn't want to be "saddled with the issue of extradition".
Tun Dr Mahathir also revealed that he has ordered the police department to remove the OSA tag from the 1MDB audit report
"I've given instructions already to the police to remove the restrictions placed on it by the Official Secrets Act (OSA). They will then submit the report to me, and I'll study it in order to release it," he said while adding that at the moment, "We don’t have an Attorney-General" as the new PH Government has placed certain restrictions on "a number of people who may be involved in wrongdoing or in making wrong decisions."
